The MS professional community has completely turned around from recommending: “rest & conserve your energy” to “get some exercise every day.”
You know your own body, so never over do it, but moving around helps me feel better. OK, I’m hooked. I joined my third gym yesterday. Each one serves a purpose for me. Club Fitness is 5 minutes from my house, La Fitness has a pool (I use for MSAA swim program), Chapter 126 Sports & Fitness is a gym for people with disabilities. The trainers are familiar with & understand MS. I find that going to the gym every day gives me the motivation to exercise.
Talk to you neurologist & physical therapist for guidance on an exercise program. There are so many things that you can do with a dumbbell (can of soup), yoga strap (tie or belt) or just in a chair. Just moving around helps. I don’t sit for more than a 1/2 hour without stretching.
There are free adaptive Yoga & exercise programs popping up everywhere. There are also really good DVDs to show you these. I go to a Yoga class 2x/week which is paid for by The MS Foundation.
Just move around, don’t over do it, don’t get overheated, drink lots of water, &
Enjoy the day, Ray
